Mooncoin

Mooncoin (http://www.mooncoinparish.com) Irish: Móin Choinn meaning "Coinn's bog" is a town in south County Kilkenny, near Waterford city.

Mooncoin is famous from the song 'The Rose of Mooncoin'. It was written in the 18th century, by Watt Murphy. He was in love with a local woman, Elizabeth Molly. But her father did not approve and sent her to England. Watt Murphy wrote the song in her memory. This song has been adopted as the anthem for Kilkenny GAA. This is because the towns local team was one of the best teams in Kilkenny during the early years of the GAA.
